Just when you think she has no more plaudits to win, actor Shabana Azmi proves that the sky is indeed the limit when it comes to her achievements. Come January 28th, Azmi will wing her way to Davos to receive the prestigious Crystal award. The Award (a Swiss mountain crystal), instituted by the World Economic Forum pays tribute to the decisive role which culture and arts play in the creation of global understanding and peace.
It honours personalities who, in addition to having won international recognition through their artistic achievements, have also made an outstanding contribution to cross-cultural understanding. ...The muchfeted actor joins the likes of writerphilosopher Umberto Eco, authors Nadine Gordimer, Mario Vargas Llosa, Paulo Coelho, showbiz and music personalities like Sidney Poitier, Lionel Richie, Pt Ravi Shankar, Ustad Amjad Ali Khan, Peter Gabriel Quincy Jones and Richard Gere, who have previously won the award.
A thoroughly pleased Azmi says, "With all humility, considering the earlier recipients, it's indeed a huge honour for me and I'll be only too happy to receive it. "
